Common Questions
Answers before you enquire
HPV (human papillomavirus) causes nearly all cervical cancers. Regular screening detects high-risk HPV early, before it can develop into cancer. Early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes.
Yes. The HPV vaccine does not protect against all types of HPV that can cause cervical cancer. Regular screening remains essential even if you have been vaccinated.
A positive result means high-risk HPV has been detected. This does not mean you have cancer. It means you will be offered further tests, such as a colposcopy, to examine the cervix more closely and monitor any cell changes.
A negative result means no high-risk HPV was detected. Your risk of developing cervical cancer is very low, and you can return to routine screening at the recommended interval.
