Zola Mzimba

Mr. Zola Mzimba FRCSEd RPhS Dip.Phleb(ECoP) is a highly accomplished Consultant Surgeon and Registered Phlebology Sonographer. Currently employed by the Western Health and Social Care Trust in Northern Ireland, Zola primarily operates at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry~Londonderry and Omagh Hospital Primary Care Complex.
With over 20 years experience treating veins Mr Mzimba can provide the most up to date evidence-based care. He is a well-respected member of the venous community and is currently a board member of the British Association of Sclerotherapists and a Council Member of the Venous Forum.
About Mr Mzimba
Having obtained a degree from Birmingham University in 1990, Zola underwent extensive junior and senior training rotations in the West Midlands, UK. Additional invaluable experience was gained during a year spent at Baragwanath hospital in Soweto, South Africa, and The Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Zola is registered with the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council (3442081) and the Irish Medical Council (401926).
After completing the training, Zola settled in Derry~Londonderry in 2006 and has since served as a Consultant Surgeon. His current focus within the NHS centres around venous disease and interventions, with a particular expertise in the local anaesthetic treatment of varicose veins (Phlebology). Zola currently holds the position of Clinical Co-Chair for the delivery of varicose vein services in Northern Ireland and has actively participated in establishing Dedicated Elective Care Centres for this purpose. The aim is to provide high-volume, high-quality venous interventions under local anaesthetic on a day case basis.
Zola is a Council Member of the Venous Forum at the Royal Society of Medicine and has been invited as a speaker at numerous international conferences hosted by the organisation. His is a proud member of the American Venous and Lymphatic Society, the Society of Vascular Ultrasound, and the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland. Additionally, Zola serves as a board member of the British Association of Sclerotherapists and frequently contributes as a speaker and panellist at their educational events. With accreditation as a venous ultrasound specialist and a diploma in Phlebology from the European College of Phlebology, Zola is a registered Phlebology Sonographer.
Zola’s area of specialisation lies in the treatment of veins, encompassing cosmetic thread veins on the legs and face, as well as venous complications such as venous ulceration. All interventions are performed as walk-in, walk-out day-case procedures under local anaesthesia. Zola’s expertise includes laser and radiofrequency closure of varicose veins, ultrasound-guided foam treatments, microsclerotherapy for leg thread veins, and short wave diathermy for facial thread veins.
