Meet Your Consultant
Mr Kieran Lappin completed his medical degree at Queen’s University Belfast before joining the Northern Ireland surgical rotation, where he gained valuable experience across a range of surgical specialties before choosing to specialise in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
He completed a Masters of Philosophy (MPhil) researching Perthes’ disease, deepening his understanding of musculoskeletal conditions. Following this, he undertook a five-year specialist training programme in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
During his training, Mr Lappin spent a formative year at the renowned Wrightington Hospital in Lancashire — one of the UK’s leading upper limb units — working under the guidance of Professor John Stanley, where he developed his subspecialty interest in upper limb surgery.
In 2006, Mr Lappin returned to Northern Ireland and was appointed as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Altnagelvin Hospital. With over 16 years of consultant experience, his practice has focused increasingly on upper limb surgery, encompassing conditions of the hand, wrist, and elbow.
He served as Clinical Lead for Trauma & Orthopaedics within the Western Trust for almost eight years, demonstrating his commitment to service development and clinical leadership.
