Steroid Joint Injections

Steroid Joint Injection Cost in Northern Ireland

A private steroid joint injection at JACE Private Hospital costs £370 for new patients: a £220 consultation with Mr Brian Hanratty followed by the £150 injection, if it is the right treatment for you. Returning patients pay £310 for a review and injection. Assessment always comes first, so you are not injected unless it is appropriate.

Is this right for me?

Who this is for

You don't need a diagnosis to book. Your consultant confirms the right route at your first appointment.

  • Osteoarthritis

Pain and stiffness from wear of the joint cartilage, in the knee, hip, shoulder or hand.

  • Rheumatoid arthritis flare-ups

Inflammation, pain and swelling in an affected joint.

  • Tendonitis and bursitis

Inflamed tendons or bursae around the shoulder, elbow, hip or knee.

  • Pain that has not settled

When rest, physiotherapy or tablets have not given enough relief.

How it works

From enquiry to treatment

What happens between seeing the price and your procedure.

  1. 1

    Book a consultation

Tell us which joint is troubling you. No referral is needed.

  2. 2

    Assessment

Mr Hanratty examines the joint, reviews your history and decides whether an injection is right.

  3. 3

    Imaging if needed

Ultrasound or other imaging may be used to guide the injection precisely.

  4. 4

    The injection

The steroid is injected into the affected area with a fine needle. It is quick and well tolerated.

  5. 5

    Aftercare

You receive advice on activity and a follow-up to check how the joint responds.

Recovery

Aftercare and going home

  • Steroid injections are generally very safe, but some people have temporary side effects: a short-lived increase in pain at the injection site, skin discolouration, facial flushing, difficulty sleeping, changes to your period, or raised blood sugar if you have diabetes.

  • Your consultant explains what to expect and when to seek advice.
